Kumusha

Upon moving to South Africa from Zimbabwe in 2008, Tinashe Nyamudoka had no winemaking knowledge – in fact, he hadn’t even tasted much wine.

While working as a sommelier in Cape Town, a chance meeting with winemaker Attie Louw from the Breedekloof region in South Africa sparked an entrepreneurial mission in Tinashe. He got the opportunity to create his own wines in the Breedekloof, and they first hit the market in 2017.

Kumusha means ‘your origin’ or ‘your roots’ in the Zimbabwean Shona language. It denotes a feeling of belonging, rather than a physical place – and this producer has quite the origin story. Watch the film ‘Blind Ambition’ to learn more about Tinashe and his incredible journey into wine.

Tinashe approaches his winemaking with a sommelier’s palate, using practices like lees ageing, and the blending of parcels to create a portfolio of wines perfectly designed for food pairing.
